Grand Annual Appeal

St. Mary & St. Lawrence Exteriors

Dear Friends and Parishioners of St. Mary’s,

On June 1, 2018, I was appointed pastor of St. Mary’s Parish and have been very happy to be part of an active parish that is filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith in the Lord.  Throughout these past sixteen months, I have witnessed how generous our people are with their time, their talent and their treasure.  Because of the hard work of so many people, our parish serves the needs of our parishioners and people throughout Brookline and the surrounding communities.  We are blessed indeed!

When I arrived last year we began the process of assessing the physical needs of our parish, which includes two churches, a rectory, a high school and an elementary school, not to mention two parking lots and lots of landscaping.  Because of your generosity in last year’s Grand Annual Appeal we were able to address some of the issues affecting our physical plant.  In this past year we have replaced our microphones at St. Mary’s, fixed major leaks in both churches, pruned all of the trees and shrubs on both properties, replaced the internet and phone systems in our parish offices, and continued to address deferred maintenance in our rectory and parish office.  When I was in Seminary no one prepared me to be a property manager!

I am writing to invite you to take part in this year’s Grand Annual Collection by being as generous as you can!  St. Mary’s parish is our spiritual home and, like many of your own homes, our churches and buildings continue to need several repairs.  Some of them have taken place already, such as the roof project we undertook this past summer at St. Mary’s Church.  Others are projects that need to take place in the upcoming year.

You will notice that our goal this year is $80,000, twenty thousand dollars more than our campaign last year.  We are doing this because we surpassed our goal last year of $60,000 with a grand total of over $68,000.  This year we have additional needs.  Some projects to be funded by the 2019 Grand Annual Campaign:

Rectory/Parish Office Roof Repair:  $10,000
St. Lawrence Church Roof Repairs:  $12,000
St. Lawrence Church Ramp/Masonry Repairs:  $4,500
St. Mary’s Church Roof Repairs:  $15,000
St. Lawrence Church Sound System Repairs:  $6,000
New Tables and Chairs for St. Mary’s Lower Church:  $21,600
Renovate Kitchen and Bathroom in Rectory/Parish Office:  $14,000
TOTAL:  $83,100

Young Adults Dinner

We are in the process of renovating our lower church, a project that is made possible by the gifts and pledges to our Inspiring Hope Campaign.  We are fixing old plaster walls and ceilings, updating lighting, creating meeting rooms for groups of various sizes, and adding a large parish hall.  We are also adding a kitchenette for catered functions and creating two new bathrooms, one of which will be fully accessible.  We are also restoring two side chapels which will be used for personal prayer.  There will be some items not covered by the construction budget, such as new tables and chairs, which will be necessary for us as we open our newly renovated lower church this winter.

With your prayers and financial help, together we can continue to make our spiritual home safe and beautiful.  Please know how grateful I am for all that you do to make St. Mary’s the great parish that it is.

Please pray for the success of our annual appeal!

Fr. Jonathan Gaspar
